First Issue of Email Newsletter
During the recent Homecoming Weekend it was suggested that we form an email list for Alumni. Posts would be kept to about one or two a month and will include information about what is going on in the House and with Alumni. The first email went out earlier this evening, and I'm posting it here, as well.
Hmm. I'm not sure I like the subject of the email, since I don't want you to think there's an "issue" which needs discussed, but I couldn't quite think of anything else clever, so there it is. Anyway, this is the first email we're sending out to this new Alumni list, so it seemed appropriate.
Fall Fest
The Chapter held it's first philanthropy event of the year, titled Fall Fest. Activities during the event included jumping in a pile of leaves for gift cards, bobbing for apples and a pie eating contest. Gift cards to local stores/restaurants were prizes for the winners. They served hot dogs, hot cider, and pumpkin and apple pie and even had live music performed by local bands. They raised over $600 for the Paul Chester Children's Hope Foundation (http://www.pcchf.org/).
PNC Loan Repayment
We are very pleased to announce that the line of credit we held with PNC Bank has been paid in full. We were able to pay the loan early due to the excellent work the Chapter has been doing with rush lately. With a full house we have been able to place ourselves in a very good fiscal situation, which will be necessary when we start talking about funding the Life Safety Initiative renovations this summer.
LSI Update
Speaking of the Life Safety Initiative, we are making steady progress towards renovations commencing this summer. Preliminary cost estimates were submitted by the architects and the number was quite a shock. We are looking at putting over $300,000 of work into the House, due to the requirements put forth by the College and updated building codes. Major work includes the fire suppression system, new fire alarm system and ADA upgrades (including a new bathroom on the first floor).
November Brotherhood Dinner a success
We had our first monthly Brotherhood Dinner on November 8th and it went very well. Bryan Robinson, '03 and Nick Laza, '03, along with several pledges, cooked a marvelous Thanksgiving style dinner which was enjoyed heartily by all. The mood of the dinner was festive and the dining room was full of laughter, just like it was in the old days. We're planning on having the dinners the second Sunday of every month, so if you're close enough to come by, please let us know. The next dinner is planned for December 13th.
Spread the Word!
This list only has 28 out of over 600 Zeta Sigma Alumni. Please forward the message to those Brothers you know and let them know about it. They can subscribe by visiting http://lists.zetasigmanu.org/listinfo.cgi/alumni-zetasigmanu.org . We promise to keep the traffic to about one or two posts a month and to keep the content informative.
Welfare and Honor
Charles Thompson, ZS 381, '81, recently returned from vacation and went straight to the hospital with breathing problems. They found several blood clots in both lungs but Chuck is now home resting. Please take a moment to send him a get well soon message at cht@embarqmail.com.
I'd like to thank everyone for joining this list and reading this far. If you'd like something to be shared in the next issue, please reply to this message and let me know. Feel free to email any questions or concerns you may have, or feel free to give me a call at 717-465-8698.
